- STARTING QICADDRESS
- =======================================================
- If you have not done so already load your word processor
- in the usual way
- (please see your word processor manual for details)
- 1. Double Click SELECT over "!QicAddres".
- 5. Click SELECT over "QicAddress" on the icon bar.

- USING AN EXAMPLE ADDRESS FILE
- =======================================================
- 1. Click SELECT over the menu icon "Address files:"
- 2. At the top there will be some default address files
- available Click SELECT over one of them.
- 3. Click SELECT in the word processors window to
- position the 'Caret' (red writing bar). This is
- where the address sent from QicAddress will be typed.
- 4. Click SELECT over one of the addresses to send it
- to the word processor.

- ADDRESS FILES: MENU
- =======================================================
- The Address File menu has available default files at the
- top and three menu choices at the bottom.
- 1. Clicking SELECT over an address file will load it.
- 2. Clicking SELECT over a ticked address file will
- remove it again.
- 3. Clicking SELECT over "Remove all" will remove all
- address files and only the default address files will
- remain on the above menu.
- 4. Clicking SELECT over "Save as set" will re-load the
- currently loaded default address files automatically
- next time QicAddress is run. (If it can find them!)
- 5. Clicking SELECT over "Show files" will display the
- default address files. These may be added to,
- edited or removed. (Please see making Address files
- latter.)
- 6. You can also drag text files onto the address window
- to load them but they will be lost when removed.

- SEARCH BOX
- =======================================================
- The white box at the top of the QicAddress window is the
- search box.
- 1. Move the pointer over the white box so that the red
- caret appears in the box.
- 2. Do not move the pointer away or the red caret will
- disappear!
- 3. Type in a name or part name from an address to be
- searched for.
- 4. The address window below will be updated to contain
- only those addresses where a match has been made.

- CASE SENSITIVE
- =======================================================
- 1. Click SELECT over "Case sensitive" if you wish the
- search to distinguish between capitals and lower
- case letters.
- e.g. Robert is not the same as robert.

- MAGIC CHARACTERS
- =======================================================
- 1. Click SELECT over "Magic characters" if you wish to
- use magic characters or wildcards in your search
- string.
- When magic characters is selected...
- •Type '\.' for a match to be found with any single
- character.
- •Type '\a' for a match to be found with only a single
- letter or number.
- •Type '\*' when there is a gap between items you are
- looking for.
- e.g. 'R\*L\*Leeds'
- will find 'Robert Lytton ........Leeds'.
- •Type '\d' for a match to be found with only a single
- digit number.
- •Type '\\' for a match to be found with a '\'.

- MAKING ADDRESS FILES
- =======================================================
- Address files are plain text files. These may be typed
- in using 'Edit'.
- 1. Type in your addresses
- (These may be up to 255 characters long.)
- 2. Press 'Return' between each address
- 3. You may include the code '#R#', '#RTRN#' or '#RETURN#'
- if you wish to have a new line typed for you.
- 4. You may include the code '#T#' or '#TAB#' if you wish
- to have a Tab chracter typed for you.
- 3. Save your Address file as 'Plain text'
- Either:
- 4. Drag your address file onto the QicAddress window when
- ever you need it.
- or
- 4. Add the address file to the default address files by:
- •Clicking SELECT over the menu icon "Address files:"
- •Clicking SELECT over "Show files" to display the
- default address files.
- •Drag your address file into the window to join them.
- (make sure it has a unique name!)
- •Drag your address file onto the QicAddress window.
- (now if you remove the address file from the address
- list it will still be available on the Address files
- menu also it will be listed on the Address files menu
- next time you run the program and you can have it auto
- load by using "Save as set". (Please see above)

- OPTIONS
- =======================================================
- To view the options window:
- 1. Click ADJUST over QicAddress on the icon bar
- or
- 1. Click MENU over QicAddress on the icon bar and Click
- SELECT over "Options...".
- (The Options window will open.)
- The options available to be set or cleared are as follows:
- 3. The "auto scroll speed" may be set by:
- •Clicking SELECT over off. (Value of 0 to turn it off)
- •Clicking SELECT over slow. (Value of 2 for Risc PC's
- to slow them down!)
- •Clicking SELECT over medium. (Value of 8)
- •Clicking SELECT over fast. (Value of 32)
- •Clicking SELECT over numerical value, Clicking SELECT
- in the number box and typing a different value in.
- 4. Click SELECT over "Extra line spacing" will space the
- addresses out more.
- 5. Clicking SELECT over "Sort Alphabetically" will
- automatically sort the address list into aplhabetical
- order. This can be done manually from the icon bar menu.
- 6. Clicking SELECT over "Fast searching" will make the
- program search the whole list none stop every time the
- search string is changed. This is the best option!

- If it is not ticked the addresses will be searched in
- blocks and control returned back to the computer for a
- while before the next block is searched. This is slower
- but is benificial when searching through 1,000's of
- addresses!
- 7. Set the options by Clicking SELECT over "Set".
- 8. Set and save the options as default values when you
- next run QicAddress by Clicking SELECT over
- "Save settings".
- 9. Cancel any changes made by Clicking SELECT over
- "Cancel" or closing the window by Clicking SELECT
- over 'X'.
- 10.Return to a recommended setting by Clicking SELECT
- over "Factory default".

- TO REGISTER THE PROGRAM
- =======================================================
- 1. Click MENU over QicAddress on the icon bar.
- 2. Click SELECT over "Register...".
- 3. Click SELECT in the "Password" box and type in the
- password, CaSe of letter is important!
- 4. Click SELECT in the "Your name" box and type in your
- registration name.
- 5. Click SELECT on "Register".
- 6. To de-register please Click SELECT on "De-register"
- before passing a copy on.

- TO VIEW THE HELP FILES
- =======================================================
- 1. Click MENU over QicAddress on the icon bar.
- 2. Click SELECT over "Help...".

- ALPHABETICAL
- =======================================================
- The address may be sorted alphabetically on a temporary
- bases by:
- 1. Click MENU over QicAddress on the icon bar.
- 2. Click SELECT over "Alphabetical".
- This sort will be cleared the next time any addresses
- need to be added. e.g. When altering the search string.
- A more permanent alphabetical sort can be set in the
- options window.

- TO QUIT
- =======================================================
- 1. Click MENU over QicAddress on the icon bar.
- 2. Click SELECT over "Quit".

- INFORMATION ABOUT QICADDRESS
- =======================================================
- 1. Click MENU over QicAddress on the icon bar.
- 2. Move over the "Info" arrow.
- (The information window will open.)
- If you need to contact RL in regards to QicAddress please
- state the version number as displayed in this window.

- !Addresses
- =======================================================
- Inside QicAddress there is an application called
- "!Addresses". This contains the default address files.
- If it is more convienient you can copy this application
- into another directory folder.
- The first copy of !Addresses seen will be set to become
- the default source for the default address files used
- by the program next time it is run.
- If you double Click SELECT over a copy of "!Addresses"
- then that copy will become the default source for the
- default address files used by the program from then on.

- To make a copy:
- 1. Hold down the 'Shift' key and Double Click SELECT over
- "!QicAddres"
- 2. Drag "!Addresses" onto another directory window.
- 3. Double Click SELECT over the new copy of "!Addresses"
- to make it the new default source.

- N.B. The first copy of !Addresses 'seen' will be the copy
- used unless you Double Click on a different one.
